This past week, I attended a conference that was focused on church communications in this age of technology. One of our presenters gave a great illustration. He created a time line of sorts using the whole conference room. In this time line, he noted the points in history where there were significant advances in technology. Along this line were such things as rudimentary cave drawings, the onset of effective spoken language, and the printing press. The time between these advances was approximately 1000 years from one to the next. Then, he moved to the last 100 years. In that time we have the telephone, radio, TV, the internet, and beyond. In these cases, we are not talking about 1000 years, but in some cases less than a decade. Today, it seems as if something new is coming out daily almost. His point in all of this was that things are changing so quickly that we don't have a chance to get used to the changes, to get comfortable with them.
I think this is an over-arching message in the world we live in. The new norm is change. It is the ebb and flow of the this time we are living in. And yes, it is hard to keep up with.It is hard to get comfortable, but, then again, how comfortable should we be?
Well, regardless of how we feel about it, after taking a look around at all that is going on and what is coming our way, I only have one thing to say: "Get used to it."

Thank you, Chris (I think?!) for reminding us what a remarkable age we live in. For me, it is comforting to realize that God never changes (Ps 102:25-27; Heb 13:8) and His love for us is constant; He is with us, no matter how unstable our environment seems to be, and in truth He leads us forward to share the Good News on the front lines of change.
