Our Work Hat

This afternoon, I attended the wedding of two wonderful people. It was a beautiful ceremony. However, it was a little weird for me. No, there was nothing wrong with the service. Its just that it was the first time I have just attended a wedding in several years. I'm usually presiding over the service or I've been a part of the wedding party. It was tough because I kept slipping into comparing notes. In other words, it was hard to take off my "work" hat. Easier said than done. Our work becomes part of our identity and its not easy to turn it off. But we need to be able to take that hat off. While our work may be a "part" of our identity, it is not the entirety of who we are. I guess its really just a matter of priorities and understanding what truly matters. Remember, our work is important. However, its not the total of our existence. Try taking that hat off once in awhile.
